EXERCISE YOUR DEMOCRATIC RIGHT AND DON’T SIGN THE PETITION IF YOU DON’T WANT ALCOHOL sold in your county or city.
To wave through the smoke created by this petition here are a few facts:
1. Apparently, those behind the petition want to confuse the populace of Union County and New Albany by saying the petition neither supports nor rejects the sale of alcohol.
2. While this may be true – it is misleading at best because those who want the alcohol sold in Union County and New Albany KNOW that it has to be brought up for a vote. Otherwise the alcohol they want would remain illegal.
3. The only chance for it to be legalized is for it to be brought up for a vote by getting enough signed petitions that will put alcohol up for vote on the November ballot.
4. The best way for those WHO ARE AGAINST THE SALE OF ALCOHOL is to prevent it from coming up for a vote in the first place because what they want is already illegal. If you sign it you are only giving those for it a chance to say yes – It’s already illegal. You don’t have to sign it. In fact, encourage others not to sign it.
By the way, I just got off the phone with the owner/manager of “Sugaree’s Bakery” on West Bankhead who is accepting signed petitions, and she said that the sale of alcohol did not fit with her business model.
However, “Sugaree’s Bakery” would neither confirm nor deny her position on the sale of alcohol which leads me to believe she is for the sale of alcohol. Best way to find out is go and ask her. If you are against the legalization of alcohol AND “Sugaree’s Bakery” is for it, then DON’T SHOP AT “SUGAREE’S BAKERY” and encourage others to do the same.
I had a similar response from “Tallahatchie Gourmet” on East Bankhead (who is also accepting signed petitions) but not from the management.
Other business who are accepting signed petitions are:
Mi Pueblo, BP Quick Mart, and New Albany Truck Center.
If businesses and individuals are promoting the signing of petitions then they are likely either for the sale of alcohol or do not understand that promoting the petition is basically giving those who want alcohol a chance to vote for it. And if enough legal petitions are signed and alcohol passes in November, then those who are against alcohol and yet signed the petition – well, they just shot themselves in the foot.
Other places that are promoting the petition:
Dees Oil (gas station at Glenfield) has the petition available for people to sign.
Stokes’ Supermarket allowed Union County United for Progress to set up a table in front of the store last Saturday for people to sign the petition.
My family is boycotting these businesses as well as the ones mentioned in your post, Rob. Thanks for standing up for your convictions!
Boycotting businesses – now that’s the true Christian response! Keep the faith Rob and Nicole! Let’s run these heathons and sinners out of town before they lead us into eternal damnation!
This is sure bringing out the best of the “holier than thous”. Very few of the many comments is even a vague glimpse of the love of Jesus. Many are showing signs themselves of what they are saying will become of the citizens if alcohol is legalized. Hatred and Abuse. Many are developing a hatred toward those for progress and abusing the Bible in order to gain support for their opinions. Isn’t it amazing. And then those hypocrites. Do they really think they are fooling God? Wait. They aren’t so much concerned about what God thinks – It is what the person in the next pew might think.
If people choose to boycott every business that in some form or fashion is involved with alcohol – you’ll starve to death. Please don’t try to put that in the same catagory as Paul being in prison.
I am voting for progress in Union County and New Albany. It is time we start to benefit from the dollars our citizens are spending in next door counties.
My husband and I have both signed and submitted our petitions. Both of our children and their spouses have done the same. We have lived in NA all of our lives and are excited about the possiblities for the future. None of us are big drinkers but we do know the doors of opportunity the legal sell of alcohol allows.
I urge all citizens who are in favor of progress for our community to sign and submit your petition TODAY!
Your VOTE is private! On November 4th vote how you choose. No body can print or publish your private vote. DO NOT be intimadated! It is a good thing to vote “FOR” progress – coming out from the dry law.
You have the RIGHT to vote!
Ready to sign and get this going!
